FAQ

1. How should I structure my 1 hour lesson?

There are many ways to spend your 1 hour lesson studying English one on one with a native English speaker. It depends where you want to focus your improvement. It is best not spend less than 15 minutes on any given area, so you will have at most 4 areas you can work on. Here are some recommendations:
  1. grammar
  2. vocabulary building
  3. pronunciation
  4. writing letters
  5. short sentence
  6. roll playing
  7. listening comprehension

2. What text books should I use?

Text books are a reference point for you to continually improve your English language ability. So just like a dictionary can be continually used over and over again. DUDULA helps you make the most of your text book investment and we help you select new text books and reference material suitable for your level and objectives.

3. How often should I study outside of class?

Just like sports, the more you practice, the better you will get. It is also better to spend a little time very day then the same cumulative time one day per week.

4. How do I choose a good school/business instructor/English teacher?

Teacher's Academic Record

Of course a native English can speak English, but can they teach? Teaching goes beyond just knowing the topic, but includes the responsibility to encourage students to study and to inspire students to achieve their goals. Look for teachers that have at least a 4 year college degree. Teachers with a Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) certificate are especially valued for non-native English speakers who are starting to learn English for the first time.

Average Teaching Experience

Look for teachers/instructors with at least 2 years of experience in the field they are teaching. Teachers that have taught non-native English students are more keen to the special needs of non- native students than teachers who have taught only in their home country. Advanced students of English should look for teachers that can further their goals and increase their existing capacity to improve their command of the English language.

Business English

Look for instructor's with at least 5 years of real business experience. Has the instructor worked at a big corporation? Has the instructor held at least 2 different positions every 3 years? If not, then the instructor will not have a feeling for teaching all aspects of business and will be limited in their ability to answer a student's questions.

Does the school use gimmicks to attract students?

NOVA tried this and the result was bad for the investors, the staff, the teachers and ultimately the students. Good schools offer one thing, good lessons in a good environment. And does the president of the school have teaching experience? If the top person does not have teaching experience, then they are less likely to be in touch with knowing what students want in a lesson and how best to create programs that will guide the student to the student's goals.
